Safety First
All staff are CPR certified.
We strive to deliver exceptional child care by providing preschool and early instruction that enables all children to develop behaviors and prerequisite skills for personal and academic success.
Children learn while receiving instruction, playing, socializing, cooperating, and collaborating. Our daily activities encourage listening and following directions, thinking, making choices, self-regulation, and pre-academic learning practice. Our language and communication program at Longmire Learning Center includes American Sign Language (ASL) and early Spanish vocabulary. Sign language is a natural language for children to talk with gestures to communicate their meaning from early ages. We have found ASL to be a wonderful support system to maintain attention and enhance children’s understanding of word meanings. In addition, the children, family and staff love using ASL to communicate personally to compliment good choices and guide behavioral decision-making.
Our LLC program uses the We Can Early Childhood Curriculum, a core comprehensive program. Our curriculum is included on the Texas PreK Adoption List and is used in numerous school systems in Texas, as well as nationally. Read more about our curriculum by reviewing the information provided by the Texas Education Agency and Voyager Sopris Learning. We Can emphasizes vocabulary word knowledge and the development of oral language to help children express their thoughts and ideas. Our language enrichment includes activities in three languages: English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL). Our curriculum includes a skills scope and sequence developed from research and best practices that are aligned to all state standards. The content and skills are presented in thematic units that contain daily lessons plans. Content is presented from easy to difficult to ensure learning develops naturally. Prerequisite skills are modeled, taught, and practiced so children have the information necessary to comprehend more challenging content as they progress through the year. The strongest features of our curriculum include language and literacy development, early reading skills, early numeracy, science instruction, and pre-writing practice. Teachers use whole class and small group activities incorporating a combination of teacher-directed and child-directed experiences. Children participate in collaborative practice activities that extend their learning. They are encouraged to choose learning centers or workstations. Our curriculum, teaching, and learning experiences are evidence-based and have proven effective incorporating research and best practices for what works with young learners. Specific emphasis is placed on organizational thinking, planning, independent decision making, self-regulation, and learning to assume personal responsibility and accountability.
Constant and clear communication is essential when caring for children. Our staff members develop personal relationships with parents, caregivers, and every child at LLC. We share information and communicate in many ways. This includes personal conversations, our website that contains a monthly event calendar, and printed newsletters that are sent home monthly. We also utilize a program called Remind, a quick and easy parent communication regarding the child, classroom, or school as a whole. This messaging system has an application for your phone or the option for you to receive a text message. We strive to speak with parents daily as they bring students to school or pick them up. All LLC teachers are full-time employees and can address all parts of the day with parents. Every month, two newsletters are sent home. One contains general information about the month’s curriculum focus with a monthly calendar of school events on the back. The second newsletter is specifically created by each teacher with information about what is happening in the classroom, class birthdays, and general reminders for their specific class. Shared communication is the foundation for our successful relationships with our staff, the children we care for, and their families.
Ms. Amie is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. Through years of research and “real life” training, Amie understands the importance that a child’s early years play in the development of their future self. Her research while at Texas A&M University focused on informal learning and she knows how effective and important it is for children to have the opportunity to discover, self regulate and play. Amie and her husband George have four children; Jaxson, Natalia, Sophia, and James. It was the birth of their first son that encouraged Amie to become interested in early childhood education and to eventually become the proud owner of Longmire Learning Center in 2008.
